Redirection error 12 Months ago Karma: 0
When testing this plugin, I added an address that should be blocked and got

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

I then hit back and get

# sorry, the registration failed. Reason:Invalid email address
# Sorry, the registration failed. Reason:Invalid email address

about 50 times.

I've a fairly standard Joomla install running 1.5.14, no other rego plugins, Apache mod_rewrite on and search engine friendly urls.

I have the same problem, when I enable the extension either the registration page never loads or the above happens.

Have you entered a redirect URL into the plugin configuration? If not, it attempts to return to the registration page and show the error, and I'm wondering if this is the problem.

There will be a new version shortly including some extra Contact Form protection, as I appear to be being spammed - it'll block any submission containing a URL. However, it won't address the issue you describe, so if you could provide the info above I'll do some tests and see if I can find out what may be causing the issue.

I have just released 1.1.6 that checks for URLs in contact form submissions.

I checked the redirect code and the code that determines whether a registration is taking place. The former uses standard Joomla redirect ($mainframe->redirect), and I can't see what would cause a problem without further information. I have actually rewritten the code to test for registration, but this is unlikely to cause any issues with redirect as far as I can see.

Hi,

This is for the site I'm currently building at:

www.drb-holding1.co.uk/

I'm having odd problems with 1.1.6 now! I've entered the URL I want to redirect to for both Redirect URL and Contact Redirect URL, namely:

index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=41&Itemid=4

This takes the user to the contact page. However, if I now click on Create an Account, I get taken to the correct page but with the custom error message.

It seems ok if nothing is entered in either of Redirect URL and Contact Redirect URL, but if a banned domain is used, the redirect goes to the Joomla registration page, rather than the Ajax Registration page....

As ever, hope this is helpful and it would be useful to know if you see the same behaviour on this site.

Thanks again,

Dave.

So hopefully we are moving slowly forward!

I've just checked, and there isn't a standard redirect in place for AjaxRegistration. This is actually because the author of AjaxRegistration provided the code to add to my plugin, and it was my fault to not check for the redirect also. I believe AjaxRegistration can be downloaded FOC, and it is just the pro version that costs - in which case I will download to determine the missing details.

With regards to the message being displayed when clicking "Create Account"... Do you receive the error message before any registration has in fact been attempted?

Damn... I can't remember precisely!

I think I tried it with no redirect and it worked fine, but redirected to the Joomla redirect page.

When I tried redirecting to the Ajax Registration page, I think that made FF get stuck in a loop.

Finally, there was the behaviour as described above.

Good luck!

Dave.

I have reproduced this error on my test site. It appears to be due to the AjaxRegistration plugin - the code suggested by their developer causes the problem, but this is my fault for not checking properly.

I have downloaded and installed AjaxRegistration, and there will be a fix for Registration Validator uploaded later today (will be 1.1.7). Sorry for the bugged release.

I hardly think it warrants an apology - you're releasing a great plugin for free!!

I'm only too happy to help you track down the bug.

Due to hosting issues (for some reason the php.ini on my test site has just disabled f_open_url...), I can't test the changes I have made...

Attached is the modified plugin that *should* work. If you could test this and let me know that it has resolved the problem (or not, if not!), then I'll release it as a fix.

I'm pleased to say my extra spam check (blocking any submissions containing URLs) has stopped my contact form spam issue... Just to wait for the next attack now to see what the spammers have changed...
