Hello.
I used the follwing command to create the service:

sc create POPSauger binpath= "C:\program files (X86)\pop collector\popcollector.exe"

The Result is a Service in the Services Panel. When I try to start the service it runs in a timeout with:

The POPSauger service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Troubleshooting:
I copied the String "C:\program files (X86)\pop collector\popcollector.exe" into the Run Box and the Program works.

Any Ideas why the Service doesn't start?

Thanks,
Schwemmi

You can install POP Collector as a service from within the program itself - have you tried this? It does require two tools from the Windows 2003 resource kit, but I have verified that it works correctly on Windows 2008, so this is the simplest way to install as a service.

Hi.
Are you sure they will work on 2008R2, too? All posts i've read say, that they won't. But I didn't try it yet.

So have you experiences with 2008R2?

Rgds,

SP2, but not R2 I don't think. I haven't done any testing on R2 I'm afraid.

Hi

I've got the same problem here: Win 2008 R2 64bit server. POP Collector works fine when started as a normal program. I tried adding it as a service (manually using sc.exe)... but it times out when trying to start.

Does PC need any command line parameters to run as a service?

best regards,
Simon
