Installed and configured fine, enabled log. But our log is filling FAST with these entries:

25/03/2010 18:48:25 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:48:30 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:48:32 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:48:50 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:48:58 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:15 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:20 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:28 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:32 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:35 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:49:36 Registration Validator Start

etc.

After 10 minutes already 300 entries of that. Is that normal? Can that be prevented? Wanted to have the log running over the weekend but I fear it will grow too big and start slowing things down!?

This isn't normal. That log marks the start of Registration Validator's processing i.e. when a registration occurs. Are you likely to be having registrations that often on your site?

It's even stranger if there are no other entries - there should be, or it implies that RV is not working correctly. If you do a test registration, do you see anything else logged?

yes, failed registration attempts are logged correctly "between" these messsages, they look like this:

25/03/2010 18:43:14 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:43:17 Registration Validator Start
25/03/2010 18:43:28 Registration Validator Start

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have just checked the code for Registration Validator, and this is actually by design (albeit not a very good one!). The Registration Validator Start is logged as soon as RV kicks in - which is actually on every page request. Unless a registration is happening, RV will simply quit as soon as it has initialised - but Start log is written.

The logging in RV1 left a lot to be desired, which is why it was rewritten in RV2. I will on the next update of RV1 move the Registration Validator Start log to later on, so that it will only be logged during an actual registration. If you want to get rid of it in the meantime, easiest way is to simply delete line 97 from cedit_blockdisposable.php.

Thanks a lot, I applied the fix.

We are probably buying the v2 anyway as we also have a Kunena forum to protect, but we wanted to test first.

thanks for the quick help!

Hi, having the same problem.
deleted line 97, but has not cured problem

Re:Log filling with "Registration Validator Start "!? 9 years, 5 months ago #1246

Did you upload the correction? If you deleted line 97, then RV can't be generating that log - that is the only line that does it. The only answer can be that the changes haven't been applied to the server.

Hi,

More efective solution is move the code at line 97 to the line 125.

So, the codes at lines 124 and 125 will be these:
if ( !$isregistering && !$contactForm ) return true;
plgSystemCedit_BlockDisposable::Log( 'Registration Validator Start' );

This solve the problem and is the correct position to start log becouse after this line is started the RV work.

Oops, it seems that this issue crept back in to 1.3.1. This was resolved in the previous version - then I updated recently to fix a Spamhaus issue. It appears that I inadvertantly introduced the log issue again.

The proper solution is, as you say, to move the log line to the code that is actually executed. I have just fixed this (again) and uploaded 1.3.2!!
