TOPIC: plugin name conflict with another CKeditor plugin

plugin name conflict with another CKeditor plugin 1 year, 11 months ago #1070

There is another CKeditor plugin for Joomla 1.5 in JED. Both of your two plugins use the name "ckeditor" for folders and files. So, when I install one after the other, the later will overwrite the former.

This is very bad.

I suggest you use the name "ceditCKEditor" instead of CKeditor.

Thanks.

The ckeditor folder contains the ckeditor files. I can rename it, however it isn't normal practise to install two plugins that do the same thing (though I understand this is quite common while testing). There have been folder and name changes internally in the dev build of ceditCKEditor, however this folder hasn't changed. I'll look into the file structure.

Yes, in testing, I often install many extensions.

Even for future support's sake, you should rename it. Otherwise, When people talking about the /plugins/editors/ckeditor folder, which plugin do they prefer to? Can you guess that?

Hope you make an unique name for your plugin and brand it!

I have changed the subfolder as suggested. I have also implemented a couple of the parameters and reworked various parts of the plugin, which is now available for download (beta 3). This includes the updated CKEditor 3.0.2.

Please let me know what you think - feedback on a beta product is especially important!

Have you tried the image browse function? This is where my editor should have the edge against other implementations - CKEditor doesn't have a built in file browser anymore, and there is a charge for CKFinder. I have implemented my own, which while also still beta and could do with more functions (resizing, moving, etc.), it makes CKEditor usable (without image support, it is pretty, but useless!).

I do want to test your image uploader, but I did not have the chance (I had reported blank textarea issue on another topic).

Ok, I will test your new version and feedback.

At the same time, I think you don't have to develop an image manager/uploader from scratch. There is one php tool named "ajax file and image manager", open-source and free, maybe you can embed it into your editor plugin?

Sorry, your posting above appears to have triggered my spam filter. I have unblocked your account again - I will look into why it triggered it to prevent future incidents! I wonder if it was to do with posting a URL.

Incidentally, I'd already developed the image uploader/browser for my custom CMS, so it wasn't too much to bolt it on. However, I will look at the one you have suggested, as if it is more advanced than mine it will be more advantageous to use that.

Yes, last night I tried several times but can't post that info successfully.

I think your spam filter refused me because there WAS an URL in my post, because I want to give you the official page for "ajax file and image manager".

I can tell you that "ajax file and image manager" is very good. You don't have to re-create the wheel. Just use it! It is GPL software. Since I can't post link here, you can find it at:

I also tried to test your new beta3 last night, but I still got blank testarea again. Surely I had already uninstalled the other CKeditor plugin. So I have no chance to tell you how good(or bad) your uploader is.

Thanks.

I received the link anyway as when postings get blocked I am sent the posting, so have looked at the uploader. For the purposes of this plugin, I will stick with the one I have - the other one looks promising, but doesn't offer anything extra currently.

Could you confirm which version of PHP you are running? I'm not sure why you should get a blank area - I did encounter this problem during development, due to parameters - but this should be fixed in the versions available for download.

Re:plugin name conflict with another CKeditor plugin 1 year, 11 months ago #1084

My localhost testing server was built with XAMPP v1.7.0 for Windows, which means PHP 5.2.8.

When I open the article editor page, I see red warning mark at the lower left of my IE8 browser, I clicked at it, it shows following message:

Line:321
Char:1
Code:0
Error:'CKEDITOR' Undefined
URL: localhost/1515/administrator/index.php?o...content&task=add

I don't know the cause, but I actually have not used your editor once.

I'll install XAMPP 1.7.0 and see if I can replicate the problem. The plugin has been tested on my dev site (PHP5, Apache 2 running on Windows) and is also now live on the main site (this one, PHP5, Apache 2, Linux). I haven't so far found any browser incompatibilities either, though only test on Firefox and IE7+.

I'll post back if I find anything.
